RON CHERNOW & HAMILTON Ron Chernow is the prize-winning author of six books and the recipient of the 2015 National Humanities Medal. His first book, The House of Morgan , won the National Book Award, Washington: A life won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Biography, and Alexander Hamilton was the inspiration for the Broadway musical.  Lin-Manuel Miranda was inspired by Chernow's biography about Alexander Hamilton and decided to create Hamilton an American Musical. via GIPHY My service learning consisted of two parts. The Hamilton in Hialeah presentation and helping the Urban Paradise organization. via GIPHY URBAN PARADISE  On Saturday March, 23rd Nicole and I we went to ACE Preserve -2605 NW 135th St North Miami, FL 33181, to do our service hours, from 8:00am to 11:00am. When we arrived at the park we met Sam and he told us what we had to do. The park entrance was beautiful, everything was so green and you could feel the calm of Mother Nature.

Urban Paradise Guild I needed to go do my Service Learning Hours for my ENC1102 class at ACE Preserve -2605 NW 135th ST North Miami, FL 33181. I signed up for a Saturday from 8:00-11:00am, and I thought it would be just picking up garbage from the park or maybe some other easy stuff and convinced my mom and my boyfriend to go along with me (I still ask myself why 😭)...                                                                                                                                 via GIPHY On Saturday when we arrived there we met Sam and he gave us gardening gloves to use (which smelled terrible 😷) before he started explaining what we were going to do. Right after seeing what we had to do I realized that after this I was in big trouble with my two companions for this trip.                                                                                                                                  via GIPHY Putting that thought aside we learned th

Public Speaking

Public Speaking can be a great fear for many of us, its something that affects 75% of the population. It's not easy to do, our heart starts raising, the palm of our hands get sweaty and suddenly the words don't seem to come out of our mouth. I can personally agree with this, its happened to me so many times. I'll never forget one of my first presentations in middle school, It was a powerpoint based on the state of Alaska and I was so nervous I thought I was going to die. via GIPHY Besides the service learning with Urban Paradise, we had to be part of Hamilton in Hialeah: A Changemaker Experience. A presentation based on Hamilton the musical. Hamilton is a sung and rapped through musical based on the life of the American founding father Alexander Hamilton. The presentation I was a part of was obviously not the actual musical but it was a way to introduce it to the people here in Hialeah campus... via GIPHY This presentation was in front of a pretty big crowd, and

Hamilton The Musical & Urban Paradise Guild

Hamilton Musical Experience Doing research in Hamilton the Musical was very interesting to me. I've never seen a play be so well put together in such a unique way. The way that Lin-Manuel Miranda incorporated rap stood out to me the most because of the way he had organized it into the play.  via GIPHY In the beginning of the service learning for Hamilton, I was not very familiar with this play so all of the research I made was new to me. Researching and reading about Lin-Manuel himself and the story behind him making this play, I came across Ron Chernow who is the inspiration behind the musical. Lin-Manuel had read a biography on the American Figure about Alexander Hamilton that was written by Ron Chernow. My part for the service learning I had to introduce the whole play. At first I thought it was going to be difficult for me to do but I did a lot of research and ended up putting a whole summary. Doing this part of the play is very interesting because I learned

Super Original Service Learning Blog Although I was annoyed -just like everyone, else really- to realize I still would have to do service learning hours in my classes after working at Amelia Park for my SLS class, the actual work was definitely better than what I expected, introducing my favorite song in a musical I just got introduced by a friend before and working along really nice people overall. Hamilton As I said earlier, I was introduced to Hamilton a few days before the semester, and when I heard that one of the assignments would be specifically on Hamilton I was getting convinced that there is a God up there taking care of me.  This revelation was confirmed when we got to pick our part of the musical to introduce and not only my favorite song and the one I was looking forward to introducing the entire day was available but at the moment I got to pick mine the mouse was already on the space below the song, so I literally only had to write my name on it and that wa

My Urban Paradise Experience.

Service Learning The first day of ENC1102 I was feeling pretty excited, I heard great things about the professor teaching the course and it seemed like the class would be pretty easy. Everything was fine that first day of class but then as we began to go through our syllabus Service Learning was brought up... via GIPHY Service learning can really be annoying sometimes !! Especially when its 25% of your grade. 💀 Our service learning consisted of two parts, our presentation of Hamilton in Hialeah and helping the Urban Paradise organization. I'll be getting into more detail about my experience with Urban Paradise on this post. So pretty much Urban Paradise Guild is an organization that wants to help Miami from being underwater in the near future, and they do this by reconstructing ecosystems that have been destroyed by invasive plants, animals, or just dumb people. 😡 Urban Paradise Guild Logo So I signed up to do my service learning with Urban Paradise at the  Arch Cr
